Understanding Shift-on-the-Fly Tuning on H&S Mini Maxx
One of the most powerful features of the H&S Performance Mini Maxx V1 and V2 tuners is the ability to Shift-on-the-Fly (SOTF). This allows truck drivers to switch between horsepower levels instantly while driving down the highway without shutting off the engine or reflashing the ECM.

How to Change Power Levels Step-by-Step
On Mini Maxx V1 (Physical Buttons):
- While the vehicle is running or in motion, look at the physical button array on the right side of the unit.
- Press the Top-Right Button (Up Arrow) to increase power levels (No Tow ➔ Street ➔ Performance ➔ Wild).
- Press the Bottom-Right Button (Down Arrow) to lower power levels when heavy towing.
- The digital screen will update instantly showing your active power setting.
On Mini Maxx V2 (Touchscreen):
- Tap anywhere on the main digital gauge cluster screen.
- Tap the Power Level Indicator icon at the top of the display.
- Select your desired tuning mode from the pop-up menu.
Best Practices & Towing Safety Tips
- Towing Rule: Always drop down to Stock (0 HP) or Tow (+50 HP) when towing heavy loads (over 8,000 lbs) to prevent high Exhaust Gas Temperatures (EGT) and transmission slippage.
- Monitor EGTs: Keep an eye on your EGT gauge. Keep temperatures below 1,250°F during long uphill hauls.
- Transmission Learning: Give your automatic transmission time to adjust when jumping straight from Stock to High Performance mode.
