Guide: Unmarrying & VIN-Unlocking Your H&S Mini Maxx Tuner
When selling your diesel truck or transferring your H&S Performance Mini Maxx V1 or V2 tuner to another vehicle, you must first unmarry (reset) the device from the original vehicle’s Engine Control Module (ECM).
If you plug a married Mini Maxx into a different truck, it will lock you out with a “Tuner Locked to Another VIN” warning message.
Step 1: Return the Original Truck to Stock Tuning
Before the Mini Maxx tuner will release its VIN lock, it must restore the original factory tuning to the vehicle it is currently paired with.
- Plug the Mini Maxx tuner into the OBDII port of the original vehicle.
- Turn the key to the RUN position (Engine OFF).
- Navigate to Main Menu ➔ Install Download.
- Select Return to Stock / Unlock Vehicle.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to cycle the ignition key when instructed.
- Once complete, the tuner will write factory parameters back to the ECM and clear its internal VIN lock memory.
Step 2: Verifying the Tuner Status
To confirm that your Mini Maxx is successfully unmarried:
- Go to Main Menu ➔ Show Settings ➔ Device Info.
- Look at the Status field.
- If unmarried, it will show
Status: Unlocked / Not Installed.
